about

A change of format for this 2009 Extremities session, just three big suites, two of them in reconstructed "collage" format works, book-ending a flowing opus that was left pretty much intact. The track details above should help you make sense of that! So we have three treks that follow a rough compositional strategy: a calm start, with diversions and developments, leading to a climactic ending. Think explorative Faust, very early Kraftwerk, meeting Third Ear Band with a whole wealth of other unexpected elements, featuring flute, guitars, percussion, and a whole "orchestra" of electronics, Mellotron sounds, etc. In many ways it's the best introduction to Extremities yet, never too weird or extreme, although it is as always a challenging and groundbreaking trip, it's even a little melodic and cosmic in parts too!

As clearly the results were a different beast to Endgame, Extremities the quartet was formed. An occasional project, averaging one session per year, Extremities have forged a new channel between Faust-like Krautrockiness, electronic improv and NWW-esque dada. ... more
